The current Bishop's Creek redevelopment site was
the former Kaiser/Greenebaum Tannery Property and is situated at
intersection of 32nd and Hampton Avenue in the northwest portion
of the City of Milwaukee. The central portion of the property
was previously occupied by the Greenebaum Tannery from
approximately the 1920's to the mid 1950's and housed a variety
of occupants with operations that included a finishing facility,
paint spray booth, automotive salvage facility, a recycling
facility, a machine shop and warehousing of goods. The Kaiser
family operated the building as a business incubator starting in
the mid 1950s. The business incubator included many small
businesses that operated out of the facility like Buene
Corporation, Instant Mailing Services and Tramont Corporation.
The Kaiser family closed the incubator in late 2001.
Bishop's Creek Community Development Corporation is currently
overseeing the multi million dollar redevelopment of the former
Kaiser Tannery property located on the southwest comer of 32nd
and Hampton Avenue. The site covers an approximately 1.5 square
mile area on the near Northwest side of the city.
